Chevening Scholarships to Study in the UK for Bangladeshi Students

This scholarship provides complete financial support for future leaders to pursue any suitable master’s degree at any UK university while also providing access to a variety of rare academic, professional, and cultural experiences. It is open for Bangladeshi students.

Chevening Scholarships are an international scholarship programme provided by the UK government, FCDO (the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office), and other entities. Students with a shown ability to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion-formers can apply for the scholarships.

Since its inception in 1983, Chevening has given 12-16 Bangladeshi students a chance to study in the United Kingdom each year. In addition, more than 1,500 scholarships are available internationally for the academic year 2022/2023, demonstrating the UK’s ongoing commitment to developing tomorrow’s leaders.

Scholarship Coverage

The Chevening Programme features a specialised interaction programme that allows scholars as well as alumni, FCDO, high-profile speakers, and partner organisations to connect. Recipients of the award will receive:

  • Tuition fees
  • Monthly stipend
  • Travel costs toward and from the UK
  • An arrival allowance
  • A homeward departure allowance
  • The cost of one visa application
  • A travel allowance to Chevening activities in the United Kingdom

Eligibility Criteria for Bangladeshi Students

  • Be a Chevening-eligible country’s citizen.
  • Have completed all requirements for a bachelor’s degree to allow you to enrol in a postgraduate program.
  • Distance learning/ part-time courses and courses lasting less than 9 months or more than 12 months are not eligible. Pre-sessional courses are not supported.
  • MBA courses at Chevening have a tuition set price of £22,000. If you choose an MBA programme, you will be responsible for the remaining fees above the £22,000 threshold.
  • Have been employed for a period of at least two years (equal to 2,800 hours).
  • By the 14th of July, 2022, you must have applied to three different approved UK university courses and obtained an unconditional offer from one of them.

  2. Complete Education Credentials

Certificates and transcripts for each completed course of study, or transcripts only for unfinished courses. This must include your bachelor’s degree. By February 22, 2022, these must be posted.

You may upload a conditional offer if you have one.

Unconditional Offers for proposed study programmes (up to three)

By July 14, 2022, you must have uploaded at least one unconditional offer.

  1. Essay Questions

This portion requires you to respond to a series of short essay questions about leadership and influence, networking, studying in the United Kingdom, and your long-term career goals.

  1. Referees’ names and contacts

You just need to supply the information for two referrals at this time, including their full name, job title, an organisation where they work, email address, and capacity in which they are known.

If you are asked to an interview, you must upload two letters of recommendation to the system by February 22, 2022.

Job Experience Requirements

  • To be eligible, all applicants must have worked at least 2,800 hours (across two years).
  • They take into account all forms of work experience.
  • Your work experience doesn’t need to be related to the course(s) you wish to pursue.
  • You are not required to provide evidence of your work experience (you may be asked questions during the interview).

Language Requirements

  • There is no English language requirement at Chevening. However, it would be best if you still meet all of the requirements set forth by your chosen university.
  • IELTS/TOFEL tests depend upon your selected university requirements.
  • IELTS Academic and IELTS Academic for UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) are both accepted by Chevening. A minimum overall score of 6.5 is required and a minimum score of 5.5 for each component.

Applications were opened from 12:00 BST (UK time) on the 3rd of August, and the deadline for submitting applications is the 2nd of November 2021 at 12:00 GMT.

Selection Procedure of the Scholarships

Independent reading committees will evaluate all qualified applications. Their scores and rankings would then be forwarded to British embassies and high commissioners in their respective countries.

Once the embassy/high commission has evaluated the applications handed to them, they develop a shortlist of those they will ask to interview.

Before their interview date, shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide two references as well as their educational credentials.

At British embassies and high commissions, candidates from all over the world will be interviewed by panels. When the interview results are announced in early June 2022, the strongest candidates will be ecstatic after months of preparation.

Chevening Scholars begin their studies in the UK in September/October 2022 and join an international network.

Is there any change due to COVID-19?

Not as such, but the Department for Education of the UK has issued instructions on local outbreaks at institutions. If COVID-19 cases are found on campus, students will be instructed to self-isolate to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and employees. If students need to isolate themselves, institutions will do all possible to secure and be well-cared for.
