The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship is a Canadian Government-funded scholarship. The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships 2022 are now open for applicants, and the Government of Canada is taking applications now. Citizens of Canada, international citizens, and permanent residents of Canada can apply for the scholarship.

It is intended for students pursuing a Doctoral Degree (PhD) or a combined MA/PhD or MD/PhD, or Masters leading to PhD and PhD, or Masters leading to MD/PhD. Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must be a Canadian citizen, or an international student enrolled in a Canadian university.
  • The candidate must be enrolled in a PhD program and be a full-time student at a Canadian school.
  • The candidate must be nominated by a university that is eligible for the Vainer CGS university quota.
  • The applicant must be in their first year of a PhD program.
  • The candidate must not be receiving any other doctorate fellowship or scholarship from any of the three Canadian organizations CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC.
  • In the previous two years of study, the candidate must have received a first-class average.
  • Students seeking dual professional degrees (MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/PhD) are eligible, but only PhD tenure will be supported.
  • The research proposal of the candidates must have a robust research component.
  • The candidate cannot be a faculty member of a Vanier quota institution or any other university. Furthermore, the institution must give the candidate leave for the PhD program to be considered.
  • The candidate must be enrolled full-time in school. However, if a student has a handicap or is responsible for supporting a family, they can enrol part-time.
  • A two-month study will be regarded as a one-month study for part-time students compared to a full-time student.
  • Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements can apply for both Vanier and agency-specific PhD scholarships. However, if they are chosen for more than one scholarship after being picked, they must choose one grant.
